Info for the Week 10/9 through 10/13

Good evening MSMS Band!

Here’s your info for the week:

Fundraiser Items were Delivered on October 5

We still have around 20 students who need to come by and pick up their fundraiser items. I will have everything put back out in the percussion room after school on Monday until 4:30 p.m. All these items must be picked up by that time. Thanks again for everyone who helped out in selling items, getting donations, etc.

Final 7th & 8th Grade Football Game October 10

Our final football game for our 7th and 8th grade pep band and color guard members is Tuesday, October 10. We will follow the same schedule as before.

The students will wear their 2023-2024 MSMS Band T-Shirt and shorts or jeans.

Students should not stay after school because the directors have high school duties. Students should be in the MSMS Band room at 4:30 on these performance days. Parents, please drop students off in front of the MSMS main entrance. Shortly after 5:00 the band will proceed to the stadium and perform from 5:30-7:15. Around 7:15-7:30 p.m. the band will return to the Band room to be dismissed (this is usually shortly after halftime for the 8th grade game). Please make plans ahead of time regarding pick-up after the game.

Water will be provided free to the students.

MSMS Color guard members who are also band members will carry their instrument to the stadium (in the case) and perform with the band in the stands and with the Color guard during halftime.

All performances are MANDATORY. Students involved in school activities that conflict with these performances will be excused (when there is a conflict) but encouraged to join us when their activity is completed. Anyone with an outside of school conflict should contact Mr. Seay, Mrs. Hood, or Dr. Frederick so that a solution can be reached – contact should take place well before the scheduled performance. If a student is sick on performance day, the directors must know, so we know their whereabouts! If we are not informed, this could still count as an unexcused absence.

We also need a few parents to help us out in the concession stand that evening. If you are available, please sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/PWAEL Thank you!

Homecoming Parade for 8th Grade (and some 7th grade) October 13

The 2023 Muscle Shoals Homecoming Parade is Friday, October 13. That day there will be an early dismissal from school. The 8th grade band will participate. I’ve also asked some students in the 7th grade band to participate as we need some additional instrument players from certain sections (tuba, baritone, saxophone, and trumpet).

*8th (and some 7th) Grade Band Homecoming Parade Info * Friday, October 13

School will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Band students in the parade can stay in the band room after school on Friday. If a student leaves campus they should make plans to return by 1:45. The parade begins at 3:00 p.m. The band students will be riding on a flatbed trailer. They will have chairs to sit in. Immediately following the parade the truck/trailer will return to MSMS and students will be dismissed from the Band room (approximately 3:30). The students should wear their MSMS Band T-shirt, pants/ shorts, and tennis shoes for the parade. The parade will enter on Brown Street and head north toward Avalon Avenue. It will enter Avalon Avenue and head west to Gusmus Avenue. On Gusmus the parade will turn and head south. The procession will turn east on Richton Avenue and cross Harding Avenue back to Trojan Drive.

First Concert is November 7

Our first concert of the year will be Tuesday, November 7 @ MSHS in the auditorium. This will be for all grade levels (6th, 7th, and 8th). The 7th and 8th grade band will need to wear their concert attire. 6th graders will need to dress nicely (no blue jeans, tennis shoes, or t-shirts, please!). There is no charge to attend this concert.

We are already working on the music in 7th and 8th grade. 6th grade will begin their work very soon!

We will need to have some morning rehearsals with the 7th and 8th grade combined together before the week of the concert. These will start at 7:15 a.m. in the middle school band room. I will speak with Dr. Frederick and Mrs. Hood this week and get those dates nailed down. I will also share those with you on next weeks post. The rehearsals will more than likely take place during the final two weeks of October and the first week of November.
