HIGH 5 FOR ALL FIVES!!!!!!!

My pride is hard to contain this morning. Bragging is not something I consider a good character trait, but our students and staff make it difficult 🙂

As the third day of Music Performance Assessment rolls on in Florence, our bands have concluded their presentations and concerts receiving all superior ratings for all four muscle shoals city schools bands. The four judges, all respected educators and mentors, had wonderful comments about not just our performances on stage and in sight reading but on our band entire band PROGRAM! They evaluated our 7th, 8th symphonic bands and wind ensemble. They were able to see appreciate the blessings we have here at Muscle Shoals. The older I get the more I appreciate the students, parents, and my coworkers.

Muscle Shoals is often mistaken for a LARGE school. In retrospect to our surrounding high schools yes. But in all honesty our surrounding schools are small and we are not large. However, we operate like a school three times our size. The number of ensembles the students can be a part of is like a band program of 300. Jazz bands, percussion ensembles, winterguard, marching band, symphonic band, and wind ensemble. While these things take up a lot of time in our lives, weeks like this allow us to see and hear the fruits of our labor. As exhausting as it can be, it is equally rewarding.

I want to thank all of our part time band staff for their efforts. They really do care about the students success in and out of band. Most of all, I want to thank Mr. Seay and Mrs. Hood. Both are blessings to all of us and we are so very lucky to have them in our lives. I learn from them every single day.

Wind ensemble and Symphonic bands scored perfect scores on the judges sheets. As Mr. Seay told his students yesterday, this doesn’t happen by accident. Congrats Muscle Shoals High School band program. Job well done.
