Protocol/Materials

Good morning Mband! We are just a few days away from our first MSHS marching band rehearsals. Monday, July 13 is the start date for the 2020 marching trojans. We have just about everything in place to begin, now all we need is YOU!

We wanted to share with you and update our thoughts from last month as far as protocal and what to bring. I will use number bullets so please read them all.

  1. We will meet you at the door with a thermometer to check temps. Be prepared for that and keep distance as much as possbile.
  2. MANDATORY MASKS! Do not enter the building without one on your face. If you don’t have one or forget one, no worries we have exta just ask please.
  3. Park out front, enter front doors only. No back door or side doors.
  4. Each group (section) will have a designated rehearsal room and will use the same room all summer. This will help greatly keep up with students, where they stand, who they are next to, and so forth.
  5. As last month, bring with you everything you need, leave with everything you need.
  6. We will have exercise packet and music for everyone Monday. If you do not have reeds or materials, please spend the next couple days making sure you have one.
  7. July rehearsals are mandatory for all band students who are not on vacation.
  8. We will spray every room, every music stand, every chair, every floor tile that a student comes into contact with during these rehearsal days. We want to band areas to be the cleanest areas you could visit in the entire city.
  9. Please do not congregate together at any time while in the building.

***Suggestion for all band members.

Find a back pack and designate it as your BAND BAG. I am going to do this as well. Inside the bag, have the following items:

  1. Music Folder
  2. Hand sanitizer
  3. Sticks, mallets, reeds, mouthpieces, guard gloves, etc
  4. flip folder, lyre
  5. drill sheets
  6. possible water bottle
  7. sun screen
  8. small snacks
  9. couple band aids
  10. ball cap
  11. extra mask

I think having a bag would be an easy way to keep up with things during this time will be important. We will not be using band lockers until further notice. Large instruments like drums and tubas will stay on campus, everything else leaves.

Rehearsal areas for sections:

  1. Brass-Library
  2. Woodwinds-cafeteria
  3. Guard-bandroom
  4. Majorettes-auditorium/hallway/gym
  5. Front ensemble-stage
  6. Batterie- percussion room

I can’t stress enough how important it is that anyone testing positive or exposed stay quarantined and lets us know about absences. Safety is still our #1 goal and always has been!
