Music Education is a vital part of becoming an educated person and preparing for life. We teach creative and critical thinking, problem solving, and individual responsibility every day. These lessons are inherent in every music class and these skills will benefit these students as they continue their educational career.
The 6th grade beginning band is designed to give students the opportunity to learn how to play a band instrument. This group is open to all 6th grade students at Muscle Shoals Middle School. The members will learn the fundamentals of music and their instruments. The members will rehearse during school hours and perform at the following required afterschool events.
The 7th Grade Concert Band is designed to continue the development and refinement of musical skills learned in the primary year of instruction. This group is open to students who have completed the previous requirements of their respective grade. The members will rehearse during school hours and will have periodic after school rehearsals. You will have plenty of prior notice for the after school rehearsals. The 7th Grade Concert Band will perform at the following required afterschool events.
This elective is open to 8th graders grade students who are currently enrolled in the instrumental music program at MSMS. Band Director approval is required to be placed in this class. Students enrolled in this class will begin the study of Jazz music. Students will be using the Standard of Excellence Jazz Band Curriculum as the primary guide for this course. The band will study music of the big band era, along side of classic jazz standards, the blues, and music that is jazz/rock influenced. This group will perform several times during the 2nd semester and will take part in the Alabama Bandmasters Solo and Ensemble festival and as well other events that may enhance the learning environment.
