Info for the Week of 8/29 through 9/2

Good evening MSMS Band!

Here’s your info for the week:

1. Our first 7th/8th Grade Pep Band performance will be on Tuesday, August 30 at James F. Moore Stadium. Please refer to my previous post for all info concerning the football game that evening! https://msband.org/msms-football-game-info/

2. We will have our first 7th and 8th grade Woodwind Sectional (flutes, clarinets, saxophones) on Thursday, September 1st. This will take place in the middle school bandroom starting at 7:15 a.m. and will end at 7:45 a.m. Parents, please make every effort to have your child at school early on for this rehearsal. We will begin working on our first AMEA song this week.

3. The 8th graders will be participating in the 2022 MSHS Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 2.

Homecoming Parade 2022 – Friday afternoon, September 2nd – 8th Grade Pep Band Students

School will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. 8th grade band students can stay in the bandroom after school on Friday. If a student leaves campus they should make plans to return by 1:45. The parade begins at 3:00 p.m. The 8th grade band students will be riding on a flatbed trailer. They will have chairs to sit in. Immediately following the parade the truck/trailer will return to MSMS and students will be dismissed from the Bandroom (approximately 3:30). The students should wear their MSMS Band T-shirt, pants / shorts, and tennis shoes for the parade. The parade will enter on Brown Street and head north toward Avalon Avenue. It will enter Avalon Avenue and head west to Gusmus Avenue. On Gusmus the parade will turn and head south. The procession will turn east on Richton Avenue and cross Harding Avenue back to Trojan Drive.

4. Our 2022 Fall Fundraiser began yesterday. Each band student received a packet of info with a sales brochure, order form, and instructions on how to set up an online account (if you choose to). This fundraiser will end on September 9. The online version of the fundraiser will end on September 16. We are asking each family to sell 7 items. We hope to be able to purchase a few new instruments for the middle school band along with some new method books. If you have any questions about the fundraiser, please email me at dseay@mscs.k12.al.us Once our order is placed, I should be able to give everyone a tentative delivery date. Once I know the date, I will pass it on to all of you.

5. Another reminder that 7th and 8th grade concert attire needs to be taken care of by Tuesday, September 6. We will have our pictures made sometime in mid-late September. Here’s a link to the post that addresses concert attire for our 7th and 8th grade:

We saw MANY MSMS Band kids at the football game Friday night! It was great to be in such a fun atmosphere and to see so many folks.

We’ve got a busy week ahead of us.
