Good evening MSMS Band!
Here’s your info for the week.
Congratulations to our 7th and 8th Band on their outstanding performance at the Alabama Bandmasters Association’s District 3 Music Performance Assessment. The band traveled to Norton Auditorium on the campus of UNA on Wednesday, March 9 for this performance. The band received all superior ratings in both their prepared selections and in sight reading. The band also received the maximum number of possible points on each score sheet.
We are very proud of the 7th and 8th grade band members. They have worked very hard and put in many hours of rehearsal time outside of school to help make this possible.
This is a wonderful accomplishment!
The band directors would also like to thank all the family members, community members, and school personnel who came out to listen to the group play.
Here’s some upcoming dates/events that are on our spring calednar:
March 24, 25, 26 – UNA Middle School Honor Band. A list of the selected students should be released this week.
March 29 – 7th and 8th grade band will play for the upcoming 6th graders (current 5th graders). This will be our big recruiting event as these students transition from McBride to the Middle School. The 7th and 8th graders will play for the entire 5th grade the morning of March 29 in the MSMS cafeteria. We hope to be able to get LOTS of kids signed up for 6th grade band next year!
April 7, 8, 9 – All State Festival in Mobile, AL
April 30 – Solo and Ensemble Festival @ MSMS (more info on this event once we come back from spring break)
May 6, 7 – 5th grade instrument testing fair in the MSMS Commons
May 10 – Spring Concert for all MSMS Band groups (6th, 7th, and 8th grades)
The MSMS Jazz band is about to begin for 7th and 8th grade members who are interested. We will have our first rehearsal on Thursday morning, March 17 @ 7:15 a.m. We usually start this group in the fall, but due to Covid, we haven’t been able to get the jazz band started back until now. The last time the jazz band played was February of 2020. There was a lot of student interest when we posted the sign up list last week. Some auditions may have to take place on certain instruments as we have had many students sign up. We will talk with the kids about that this week.
We had 27 MSMS Band students who participated in the 2022 Shoals Area Honor Band this past Friday. Two of our 8th grade band members, Canaan Williamson and Bryson Hill, were given the “Outstanding Musician Award” at the concert last night. Congratulations guys! Congrats again to all of our MSMS band students who auditioned and were selected to the honor band this year.
I will be staying after school on Monday and Tuesday this week to work with our All State members as they record their etude for their chair audition for the event. We have to have each student’s recording uploaded by Tuesday evening. I have been talking with each student and they are aware of which day they will be recording. Specific All State Festival details will be coming out very soon.
This past week was a great one for our band program!
One more week and then spring break.
