Good morning MSMS Band!
Here’s your info for the week:
7th & 8th Grade Morning Sectional Rehearsals continue this Week!
Woodwinds will meet on Thursday morning (2/6) @ 7:15 a.m. in the band room.
Parents, please make every possible effort to have your child at these morning practices. These rehearsals are vital in our MPA preparations. We want our kids to be confident and prepared when they go perform in early March.
Thank you so much for your help and support. It means so much the directors, the kids, and the program. We had two very good morning rehearsals this past week with both brass and woodwinds.
Here’s the schedule for morning sectionals through the end of February:
February 11 – Brass; 7:15 – 7:50
February 13 – Woodwinds; 7:15 – 7:50
February 18 – Brass; 7:15 – 7:50
February 20 – Full Band; 7:15 – 7:50
February 25 – Full Band; 7:15 – 7:50
Evening MPA Rehearsal with Full Band
*February 27 @ MSHS in the Band Room; 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.* (this rehearsal will take place in the High School Band Room. We will have special guests with us that evening to adjudicate the band as we prepare for our upcoming MPA Performance)*
Jazz Band
Jazz band will meet on Wednesday morning (2/5) @ 7:15 a.m. in the band room. Our first performance will be on February 6 at the MSMS Black History Month Program. On Wednesday morning I will give the jazz band students the details for their upcoming performance on February 6.
Chair Tests for 7th Grade Continue this week
7th graders will continue their chair tests on Monday of this coming week. These will be done in person and during the 3rd period band class. Most of the brass students completed their chair test last week. Woodwinds will finish theirs this week.
Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band Tryouts
The tryouts will be the evening of February 4 @ Muscle Shoals Middle School. The tryouts will begin at 5:00 p.m. All students auditioning will need to get their instruments and music out of the band room before 5:00 p.m. as that area will be used as a tryout room for percussion.
The warm up area will be in the cafeteria. There are no assigned audition times. Each child will need to go and find their tryout room and wait in line for their turn to tryout.
Once the student finishes their audition, that are free to go home. Good luck to all the students who are auditioning!
Upcoming Calendar of Events
February 4 – Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band Auditions (for interested 7th & 8th Grade Students) @ MSMS
February 7 & 8 – District Honor Band @ Russellville High School (for selected students)
March 4, 5, & 6 – Music Performance Assessment @ UNA. This will be all 7th & 8th grade band students. They will perform on one of these dates.
March 7 & 8 – Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band @ Florence Middle School (for selected students)
April 10 – 12 – All State Band in Mobile, AL (for selected students)
April 24 – 26 – UNA Middle School Honor Band (for selected students, more info to come in the spring)
May 3 – Solo and Ensemble Festival at MSMS. (All grade levels may participate in this. More info to come in the spring)
May 8 – MSMS Band Spring Concert @ Muscle Shoals High School (All grade levels will perform)
