Good morning MSMS Band!
Here’s your info for the week:
Special Evening Rehearsal
The 7th and 8th Grade Band will have one evening rehearsal on Tuesday, February 27 @ 6:30 p.m. in the HIGH SCHOOL band room. This special rehearsal will end at 8:00 p.m. We will have some retired band directors coming to listen to the kids and offer their expertise as we get closer to our MPA performance. Parents, thank you in advance for your efforts to have your children at this rehearsal. We will play through all of our music as well as do some sight reading exercises. This will be one of our final “tune ups” before we go to MPA on March 7.
MPA
We have received our MPA Performance Date and Time.
What: Alabama State Music Performance Assessment
Who: All 7th and 8th grade band members
When: Thursday, March 7 @ 8:00 a.m.
Where: Norton Auditorium @ UNA
We will take the kids on buses over to UNA the morning of March 7. They will need to wear their concert attire when they arrive at school that morning. The kids will need to eat breakfast before they come to school that morning as we will leave before the cafeteria opens. They may bring a change of clothes with them to change into once we come back to MSMS.
The band room will be open at 6:15 a.m.
The buses will leave at 6:50 a.m.
We will get to UNA relatively early that morning. This will give us time to get on stage, warm up, and let the kids get used to playing in a different environment.
Anyone may come and listen to the bands play at MPA. There is no charge for admission. However, parents will need to remain in Norton Auditorium. Once the band leaves the stage, they will go into another room to perform the sight reading portion of the assessment. No one but band members, directors, and administration may go into the sight reading room.
When we are finished, we will have a little bit of time to listen to some other bands before heading back to school. We will have the kids back at school in time for them to go lunch.
Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band
The dates of the honor band are March 8 & 9 @ Florence Middle School. Here’s the schedule of events for the weekend:
Friday March 8, Florence Middle School
9:00 – 12:00 – Rehearsals (kids need to come to MSMS like normal. We will load the bus at MSMS and then go to FMS around 8:15 a.m.)
12:00 – 1:30 – Lunch – (we will have lunch for the kids brought to FMS, or they may bring their own)
1:30 – 2:15 p.m. – UNA Studio Jazz Band Performance
2:30 – 5:00 Rehearsals
Saturday March 9, Florence Middle School
9:00 – 12:00 Rehearsal (Meet at MSHS parking lot at 8:15 a.m.)
12:00 – 2:30 Lunch – (we will have lunch for the kids brought to FMS, or they may bring their own)
2:30 – Concert Warm-up
3:00 – Concert, Florence Middle School Auditorium (There is no charge to attend this concert!!)
MSMS and MSHS Band students who are taking part in the honor band will be bused over to Florence Middle School both Friday and Saturday. Honor Band participants will need to wear their concert attire for the concert Saturday afternoon.
The Honor Band participants will be taken by bus on Friday and Saturday mornings to FMS. They will also ride the bus back to Muscle Shoals on Friday afternoon. The middle school honor band kids will need to come to school like normal on Friday morning. A bus will be available to bring the kids back to Muscle Shoals after the concert on Saturday or parents may check their child out after the concert if they so choose.

Tuesday, February 27 – Full 7th/8th Grade Band Rehearsal @ Muscle Shoals High School Band Room. Rehearsal will begin @ 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 7 – MPA @ UNA. 8:00 a.m. performance time
Friday, March 8 & Saturday, March 9 – Shoals Area Honor Band @ Florence Middle School
Tuesday, March 12 – 7th and 8th Grade Band will play for the entire 5th grade! (This is our big upcoming 6th grade band recruiting event). This will happen during school hours that day.
March 25 – March 29 – SPRING BREAK
April 25-27 – All-State Band in Huntsville
Saturday, May 4 – Solo & Ensemble Festival @ MSMS (6th, 7th, and 8th Graders can participate!!)
Thursday, May 9 – Spring Concert for all MSMS Bands (6th, 7th, and 8th)
This is our final full week of rehearsals with the 7th and 8th grade band members before MPA. I am looking forward to putting the finishing touches on our music.
