There will be no jazz band rehearsals this week or next week. We will resume those rehearsals in January.
We have 5 students who will be participating at the University of Alabama Middle School Honor band on Thursday and Friday of this week. These students are Riley Hargett, Zoey Oliver, Janelle Parks, Emmitt Wright, and Christopher Clark. Please wish these students the best as they journey to Tuscaloosa later this week.
Now that our fall concerts are completed, it is time for many of the band students to turn their attention to some upcoming auditions. We have about 15 students signed up to audition for Middle School All State this year. Students, it’s all about scales, scales, scales, and scales. Did I mention it’s about scales? If you know your scales, you will already be in the top portion of your section that is auditioning for All State. The tryouts are Saturday, January 25 @ MSHS.
The next audition that I’m sure will include several of our middle school student is the Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band Auditions. These tryouts will take place on Tuesday, February 4. The audition requirements are the same as the 7th and 8th grade students had for their chair test earlier in the semester. We would love nothing more than to have a large MSMS Band presence at Shoals Area Honor Band this year. More info about this will be given out after the Christmas Holidays.
In class this week we will be looking ahead to things that are upcoming. Sight reading music in 7th and 8th grade and getting back into the method book for 6th grade and 7th grade.
The bands did a nice job on the concert last Tuesday night. It was a quick turnaround from our Veterans Day Program, yet I thought the students responded well to the challenge of getting a concert ready in 11 rehearsal days.
Let’s have a great week. Let’s get better this week. Already looking forward to it. Seay you all in the morning!
