Info for the Week of 1/3 through 1/7

Good morning MSMS Band and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here’s what we will have going on this week, as well as upcoming events for many of our MSMS Band members:

1. Classes start back on Thursday, January 6. All band students will need to make sure that they have their instruments when they come back to school on Thursday.
2. There will be two sign up lists on the back lockers in the bandroom; one for 2022 Alabama Middle School All State Auditions and the other for 2022 Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band Auditions.
   1. I know most of the kids (7th and 8th grade) who are trying out for All State this year, but I need to make sure my list is accurate. If you are planning on trying out for All State, your name needs to be on the list by Friday this week. We have to register them by this weekend. The day of the auditions is Saturday, January 29 @ Muscle Shoals High School. If we have some students who are selected to the middle school All State Band, the dates of the clinic will be April 7-9 in Mobile, AL.
   2. Shoals Area Honor Band Auditions will take place on Tuesday, February 1 @ Florence Middle School. I know we will have several students who will want to audition for this honor band. For the 7th and 8th grade, this audition material will be the same as their chair test from last semester. (The scales have to be memorized and there will be sight reading, too). If a student were to be selected for the Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band, the actual clinic will be March 11 and 12 at Muscle Shoals High School.
3. We had 5 students who were selected to the Auburn University Middle School Honor Band. These students are Cayla Hampton, Andrew Hubbert, Aiden Foster, David Nicolasora, and Canaan Williamson. Congrats to these students!
4. Our next performance for all groups (6th, 7th, and 8th) will be our Winter Concert on Thursday, February 17. This will be a “tune up” concert for the big MPA performance that will be coming up for our 7th and 8th grade band members.
5. No All State Practice after school this Thursday and Friday. We will resume that on Monday of next week.

We hope all of you have had a nice break. We are looking forward to getting started back with the kids on Thursday this week.
