Good evening MSMS Band!
Here’s your info for the week:
We had a good first 2 days last week. We are looking forward to the first full week of class for ALL grades!
We will start working on our 7th and 8th grade pep band music this week. 6th grade will be working on Flashcards with Mrs. Hood along with rhythm counting and mouthpiece playing.

Band fees for the year are as follows:
8th Grade – $100
7th Grade – $100

All of these fees can be paid on the MySchoolBucks App. You may also send cash or check with your child. Please make checks payable MSMS Bands.
We would like for all band fees to be paid by September 29, 2023.
Concert Attire for 7th/8th Grade
Here’s what we would like for the kids to wear for their performances this year.
Boys – black dress pants, black dress shoes, black belt, and a white, long sleeved button down dress shirt.
Girls – (3 options)
#1 (this is preferred) – A long black dress that looks similar to this (please click the link or copy and paste) and black closed toe dress shoes with low heels:
Dresses must have sleeves and a back.
#2 – An all black pant suit (black pants, black blouse with sleeves and a back, black closed toe dress shoes with low heels)
#3 – black dress pants, black dress shoes, black belt, and a white, long sleeved button down dress shirt.
Parents, let’s try to have these items for the band kids by October 23, if at all possible.
7th/8th Grade Pep Band Upcoming Performances
The 7th and 8th grade band members will be performing at the home middle school football games this fall. The dates for the games are August 31, October 3, and October 10.
All 7th/8th grade band members will need a lyre and fipfolder for their instrument. Alabama Music in Florence will have those for purchase.
Attendance for these performances for 7th and 8th grade are required. The only exception is if your child is involved in another MSMS activity that may prevent them from attending the games (athlete, dance team, cheerleader, etc.)
Please check out last weeks post for our MSMS Band Calendar along with other important info: https://msband.org/back-to-school-info-for-2023-2024-school-year/
We are looking forward to a great year! This 6th grade band class is the largest I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with: 97 students!! We are very excited about having SO many 6th grade students with us this year! Parents, keep on encouraging you kids to practice! It may sound rough right now, but I assure you that it WILL get better! The improvement they will make over the course of the year will be remarkable!
Seay everyone on Monday!
