Here’s your info for the week:
No School on Monday, February 20 AND Tuesday, February 21
Classes will resume on Wednesday, February 22
Jazz Band Performance Rescheduled
The MSMS Black History Month Program has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 23 @ 8:30 a.m. We will follow the same procedure as before. The jazz band members will need to meet in the gym @ 7:30 a.m. that morning, dressed in their black MSMS Band T-Shirts and jeans.
Upcoming Rehearsals for 7th/8th Grade Band
MPA is quickly approaching! Our performance date is Tuesday, March 7 @ 8:00 a.m. in Norton Auditorium on the UNA campus.
I would like to have two morning rehearsals with the combined 7th/8th grade group as we get closer to the performance. These two mornings will be Friday, February 24 & Thursday, March 2. These rehearsals will begin at 7:15 a.m. (much like we did for AMEA Preparation). We will also still have our evening rehearsal in the High School Band room on Tuesday, February 28 @ 6:00 p.m.
MPA is usually the pinnacle of our spring semester. This year was a little unique with the band playing at AMEA. Yet MPA is still very important for the band students and the band program. It’s because of last year’s SUPER recording at MPA, that this year’s band was selected to perform at AMEA. We have been working on 2 new songs for MPA (we will be keeping one of the songs that we played at AMEA).
Shoals Area Honor Band
The dates of the honor band are March 10 & 11 @ Florence High School. Here’s the schedule of events for the weekend:
Friday March 10, Florence High School
Rehearsals
9:00 – 12:00 – High School Band on stage/Middle School, Band room
12:00 – 1:30 – Lunch – on your own
1:30 – 2:15 – University of North Alabama Lab Band Concert – in auditorium
2:15 – 2:30 – Break- reset stage, move MS students back to band room
2:30 – 5:00 Rehearsals – same place as above

Saturday: March 11, Florence High School
9:00 – 12:00 Rehearsal
12:00 – 2:30 Lunch on your own
2:30 – Concert Warm-up
3:00 – Concert, Florence High School Auditorium
MSMS and MSHS Band students who are taking part in the honor band will be bused over to Florence High School both Friday and Saturday. Honor Band participants will need to wear their concert attire for the concert Saturday afternoon.
UNA Middle School Honor Band April 13-15
Here’s the info for UNA Middle School Honor Band. Any 7th/8th grade band member may apply to be a part of this honor band. Once the folks at UNA have compiled a list of applicants, they will then choose who will be a part of the event.

There are no paper applications. These will all be submitted on through a google form (see link above)
If your child is accepted to be a part of the UNA MIddle School Honor Band, there is a $65 participation fee that will need to be paid to UNA Bands. More info on that once the list of accpepted applicants has been posted. The deadline to apply for this Honor Band is Friday, March 17.
