Good morning MSMS Band!
Here’s your info for the week:
Morning Rehearsal This Week
The 7th and 8th graders will have another FULL BAND rehearsal on Thursday, February 22 @ 7:15 a.m. in the middle school band room. Parents, please make every possible effort to have your child at this morning rehearsal. These practices are the only opportunity we have to get the entire group together before we perform at MPA in March. Thank you so much!!
Special Evening Rehearsal
The 7th and 8th Grade Band will have one evening rehearsal on Tuesday, February 27 @ 6:30 p.m. in the HIGH SCHOOL band room. This special rehearsal will end at 8:00 p.m. We will have some retired band directors coming to listen to the kids and offer their expertise as we get closer to our MPA performance. Parents, thank you in advance for your efforts to have your children at this rehearsal. We will play through all of our music as well as do some sight reading exercises. This will be one of our final “tune ups” before we go to MPA on March 7.
MPA
We have received our MPA Performance Date and Time.
What: Alabama State Music Performance Assessment
Who: All 7th and 8th grade band members
When: Thursday, March 7 @ 8:00 a.m.
Where: Norton Auditorium @ UNA
I will send out a more detailed itinerary next week concerning the day of our performance. Parents are welcome to come and listen to the band at Norton Auditorium. There is no charge. The band will play 3 songs on stage and then go to the sight reading room. Parents are not allowed in the sight reading area, only the auditorium. Once the band finishes their sight reading, we will find out our scores. After that, we will go back into the auditorium to listen to a few bands before heading back to MSMS. They will eat lunch at school that day.
This performance at MPA is our most important one of the year. The kids have been working hard on their music. We still have work to do, but I feel very good about the progress we have made in the past 3 weeks. The students will wear their concert attire for this event!
Shoals Area Honor Band
Shoals Area Honor Band is March 8-9 @ Florence Middle School. We had 25 students selected to be a part of the honor band! Way to go!
If your child was selected to be a part of the honor band, they must attend each rehearsal. They cannot participate in the honor band if they miss a rehearsal. We will bus the kids over to Florence Middle School the morning of March 8 and bring them back once rehearsal ends that afternoon. We will bus the kids over the morning of March 9, too. Parents may check out their child at the conclusion of the concert that day, or they may ride the bus back to MSMS. A detailed schedule will be given out next week!
We are so excited to have SO many students participating in this event!
Upcoming Schedule of Events
Thursday, February 22 – Full 7th/8th Grade Band Rehearsal @ 7:15 a.m.
Tuesday, February 27 – Full 7th/8th Grade Band Rehearsal @ Muscle Shoals High School Band Room. Rehearsal will begin @ 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 7 – MPA @ UNA. 8:00 a.m. performance time
Friday, March 8 & Saturday March 9 – Shoals Area Honor Band @ Florence Middle School
Tuesday, March 12 – 7th and 8th Grade Band will play for the entire 5th grade! (This is our big upcoming 6th grade band recruiting event). This will happen during school hours that day.
March 25 – March 29 – SPRING BREAK
District Honor Band
We had a great time at District Honor Band last week! The concert went very well and everyone had a great time! Here’s a pic of all those who attended from the middle school:
We continue to make some great strides in our 6th grade classes. These students are doing a nice job. Parents, you will really enjoy our next concert (Spring Concert). They have come SO far since the beginning of the year. Keep working and practicing, 6th grade! Good things are happening!
