Good morning MSMS Band.
It was so nice to be able to come to school for 5 consecutive days last week. We took advantage of it in each class. Lots of really good work was accomplished. We are hoping for more of the same this week.
7th and 8th grade band members will begin working on our second MPA piece this week. The goal is to be able to read through the entire song by Friday. If we can do that, we can spend more time cleaning these songs up as well as working on Sight Reading before our MPA (Music Performance Assessment) concert in March.
Here’s what we need to know for this weeK
- All 7th and 8th grade band members will have a morning rehearsal starting at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday February 3. We will have at least one morning rehearsal a week leading up to MPA. We need to be able to get both groups together so that they can be comfortable in what they are doing when we all perform together.
- Shoals Area Honor Band Audition Sign Ups are still on going through Tuesday, February 1 @ 3:00 p.m. I will have to submit the names of our students who will be trying out by 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. The date of the tryout is Tuesday, February 8 @ Florence Middle School. We will not take a bus. Each child trying out will be responsible for their own transportation that evening. The auditions will begin at 5:00 p.m. There are no assigned tryout times. Each child will find their tryout room for their instrument and simply wait in line until it is their turn to play.
- Any 7th or 8th grader still interested in filling out an application for UNA Middle School Honor Band needs to take care of that this week. I have the forms up at my podium. The dates for the honor band are March 24-26.

All of these students will also be participating in the District Honor Band next month, which will be February 11-12 @ Russellville High School.
Caden Jones – Percussion, made the Middle School District Honor Band today, as well.
These students have worked very hard over the past weeks and months leading up to today’s auditions. We are proud of you!
Muscle Shoals City Schools has 22 All State Band Representatives this year. That is a FANTASTIC number!
