PAINTING OF FACES:

Students, we will open the doors to the band room one hour sooner than we first planned. This is to allow everyone to do what is needed.

PAINTING PROCEDURE:

One or Two students in each section will do all the painting. Those students should paint their faces first, then paint the others. Students should be in their entire uniform except their band jackets. This is to help keep the paint from getting onto clothing. Only a few students should do the painting to keep everyone from getting paint on uniforms and other places.

This paint does not remove from clothing easily. It is an understatement that you will have to be very careful NOT getting paint on the uniforms. Just yesterday we had a jacket get paint on it in just a few minutes. We will need to ride a bus for hours and not get paint on the uniforms. If it DOES happen, don’t stress but let a band mom know IMMEDIATELY so we can do what we can. But remember extra special care must be given to this.

When removing the face paint, take off your jacket first then remove it while in bibbers. If you take the bibbers of with the paint on your face, it will get all over the bibbers.

After the show, we will distribute some face wipes to help, but you will all need to go to the rest rooms and removed the paint with water and paper towels. This will be a good first run to try to this out. We really need to not have any catastrophes with the paint. One moment of craziness and not thinking about it is all it will take and we have a mess on our hands.

On another note about the war paint. There is a reason we are doing this and it has less to do with how it looks and more how it should make you feel. The whole idea is to put you in a frame of mind that you have struggled with before now. It’s the extra “turned stone” to help you get into the mindset we need you to be in to perform this show at it’s highest potential. It the type of special consideration needed to squeeze every ounce of energy and emotion we can get from each performer. It is to help you get into the warrior character this show was designed to evoke.

No regrets. No looking back wishing we had done this or that.

When you put on your war paint, you should feel different and behave different. Focused, quiet, determined, confident, no fear, the trojan spirit. Putting on the face and behaving any other way just doesn’t fit. The paint is not going to make you a better musician or a better marcher, but it will help you play with passion and energy. Controlled energy mind you, but passion none the less.

When you get off the bus at Hoover, your game face is on. Don’t wait for warm up. It’s time.

We have business to take care of…………..
