From the Podium: 7/8-7/13

First “From the Podium” of the 2024-2025 band season! We are very excited to get things started this week. This post contains all information for next week! Fittings, First rehearsal, DCI, Band Basics BBQ, Leadership Retreat, etc.

Week At A Glance
Monday: Instrument Inventory for Section Leaders/Co-Section Leaders (School-owned), Senior/Junior Fittings

Daily Details
Monday: Woodwind, Brass, Percussion uniform fittings on Monday and Tuesday. Seniors should drop by between 1-1:30 on 7/8. Juniors should drop by between 1:30-2:30 on 7/8. All new members (any any not able to come to fittings) will be fitted during the first few days of band camp. Students should wear athletic gear under their uniforms, shorts and tank tops/t-shirts. There is still no AC at MSHS, so it will be hot inside during the fittings.

Section leaders/co-section leaders for school owned instruments should plan to get instruments ready at 2PM on Monday. They will need to be transported to the church beside the middle school if they are not already there.

Tuesday: Sophomores and any other returning member that wasn’t able to make it the day before should drop by between 1-2 on 7/9.

Summer Rehearsal: 5pm-8pm *fill out absence form if you are out of town. Attendance mandatory for all in town. Absence Form.
Percussion: Church beside MSMS (Dr. Frederick will send you more details)
Winds (Woodwinds and Brass): MSMS Band Room
Auxiliary (Majorettes and Color Guard): McBride Gym

Students should wear tennis shoes, athletic clothing, and bring their equipment/instruments on Tuesday Evening.

Wednesday: The following people signed up to help with seat numbering on Wednesday evening: Ella Rule, Liam McGuire, Selah Gist, Savannah Green, Addison Barber, Amber Willis, Trinity Carruth, Caroline Seay, Karley Geijer, Emma Clifton, Carter Hanson, Samuel Butte, Landon Hyde, Ava Walker, Jillian Snyder, Hugh Jones, Walt Jones, Caroline Holt, Braden Sweat. These students should meet at the upper concession stand gate at 6PM. We will clean out to ticket booth first and then begin to number the seats. You will receive your volunteer shirt during this time for the show.

Thursday: DCI Northern Alabama!

Day of Event Volunteer Info:
-Parking for all volunteers should be in the Avalon lot at MSHS or at Easter Seals.
-Volunteer shirts will be available to pick up at the Trojan Merchandise Store in the stadium.
-Only official volunteers with a shirt will be able to enter the stadium without a purchased ticket (this excludes those working in the concession stand, you will just need to wear a MS band shirt).

Stadium Set-Up: Caden Corble, Crystal Nguyen, Tammy Reed, Karley Geijer, Jackie Self, Kaitlyn Reed, Lucas Gautreaux, Caroline Seay
-Arrive at the Trojan Store by 3PM (take your walk from parking into account please.)

Field Volunteer: Andrew Hubbert, Tori Glick
-Arrive at Trojan Store by 6 PM, you will be down on the track facilitating anything needed by the judges or corps. Basically watching corps’ from the track unless and errand needs to be ran.

Box Office Volunteer: Jennifer Royer*, Caden Corble, Karley Geijer
-Meet at Trojan Store at 5:45, you all will be helping with customer service if there is a wifi/ticket issue. DCI staff will also be on site for this.

Ticketing Volunteer: Kelly Letson*, Amy Seay, Sarah Call, Candi Flanagan, Cindy Vandiver, Bryson Hill
-Meet at the Box Office Outside of Upper Concessions at 6PM. You will be scanning tickets as patrons enter.

Seat Ushers: Tracy Hill*, Emily Crittenden*, George Crittenden*, Kristy Bray, Crystal Nguyen, Caroline Seay, Jackson Vandiver, Dahlia Lamas, Ella Rule, Laila Noah, Bobby Shirley, Angela Lamas, Jackie Self
-Meet at the Trojan Store at 6PM. You will be helping people find the seats printed on their tickets and you will control traffic flow during performances.

Corps Entrance Gate: Jeremie Kinney*, Griff Kinney, Lucas Gautreaux
-Meet at the Trojan Store at 6PM. You will be at the corps entry gate in case any issues arise with coming on and off the field.

Field Stairs/Staff Viewing: Neil Nettles*
-Meet at the Trojan Store at 6PM. You will be monitoring the gate that leads down to the track to ensure only staff go up and down into the stands to video.

Water Station: Jaime Harden, Live Lavecchia, SoRaya Mastin, Mariah Jones, Andrew Crittenden, Tristan Ruano.
-Meet at the MSMS Band Room at 6PM. You all will be monitoring the water station outside the stadium.

Upper Concessions: Heather Foster*, Christy Waters, Cheri Grimmitt, Allison Roberts, Lady Beth Tucker, Emma Beth Waters, Blake Mitchell, Lily Garrett, Emilee Roberts, Greta Letson, Lucy Grimmitt
-Meet in Upper Concessions at 5:30PM

-Meet in Lower Concessions at 5:30 PM

Bad Dads: David Waters is organizing other band dad positions and will give you all info you need.

Clean-Up: All hands on deck (plus) Mariah Jones, Caroline Seay, Crystal Nguyen, Emma Clifton, Carter Hanson, Amber Willis.
-If this is your only job, arrive no later than 9:45 to the upper concession stand.

Friday: Band Basics BBQ, please RSVP no later than Sunday 7/7. RSVP here.
-BLT members are bringing desserts and should arrive at Grace Life Church at 4:30PM. Event starts at 6PM! We are excited to officially welcome our new members and their families!

Saturday: Leadership Retreat
-The first half of the day (9-12) will include leadership training, lectures, and breakout sessions. 5-8:30 will be making binders, cleaning, and painting the field(s) to get ready for band camp.

We are making the call to utilize the No AC schedule for band camp Week 1. We will make the call on Week 2 at a later date. That schedule is as follows:

Monday-Thursday:
7:30-12:30
12:30-5:30 – Break (Students must leave campus)
5:30-8:30

Primary locations for week 1:
Winds (woodwinds and brass): church next to MSMS
Percussion: MSMS Band room
Auxiliary: Muscle Shoals Parks and Rec Gym 2. I am currently working on another option, so we may be able to split color guard and majorettes.

We will also be meeting as a full band or sections on the MSHS Band Practice Field, depending on individual day schedules.
