From the Podium, 10/5

Good morning band. It’s going to be a wonderful week for the MSHS marching band program.

Our first of two special performances is happening at James F. Moore Stadium at 7pm this Thursday night. We will honor our awesome senior class of 2021 and celebrate our special guests the Muscle Shoals Middle School Band. And obviously our 2020 halftime show from the MSHS Trojan Marching Band! I hope you have invited everyone you know to come to the stadium and enjoy a night of music and fun.

Seniors, we will need to make sure you have everything needed for uniform pictures Thursday night. We will meet and discuss everything after rehearsal today. We will have a script to write with your help and we will need to know what family members will be with you. Senior parents and escorts should meet bellow the scoreboard at 6:30pm that night.

Friday night is our second away football game of the year headed to Hartselle HS. We will depart at 4:30 headed to Hartselle. We plan to stop for dinner as well as concession stand time. Dress is black polo and white ballcap.

(we will need to watch the tropic forecast)

Band goals this week: We will learn two additional drill moves for the ending of the show as well as some hornline choreography. Every rehearsal is outside this week. Let’s find our competition focus this week!

Pit Dads: The band plans to push equipment down to the stadium at 6:15pm Thursday evening.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 13th: We will dedicate this entire day to fitting all winds and percussion into uniforms. All of these students need to have their shoes that day as the entire band will get into uniforms to make sure everything fits properly. If you were among the few sophomore-juniors who needed uniform changes, you will get them that day. FRESHMAN: you will be fitting into a uniform that day. We have parents taking off work that day so do everything you can to be at school that day.

Freshman (and a few others): You band shoes have been ordered and should arrive anytime. When they come in , you will need to pick them up after you pay for them. Just bring a check and we will receipt it that way.

I can’t believe it’s October already, but keep in mind just a few short weeks and we will be inside rehearsing for a Christmas program. It has been strange not having private lessons taking place and seeing Mr. Spiller and the others. I don’t know when that will be able to happen again, but students please do not neglect your all state auditions. Usually this time of year we have 25-30 students practicing diligently for these auditions. It makes the band and you better!

Thank you high school students who came to the one and only middle school pep band performance. It looked like you had a good time and it was obvious the middle school students picked up on your wonderful dance moves………..

I need to give a very large shout out to the band boosters. In such a strange bizarre (anything else describing 2020) season, hard working habits certainly have not been quarantined. We are just amazed at the effort put forth to make things happen for the sake of the band students…….YOUR students. Thank you for all the concession stand prep and work at high school, middle school, and rec league games hosted at James F. Moore stadium. Parents, if you haven’t donated your time to the band program through our boosters, it isn’t too late. Click on the booster side of this website and volunteer. Find out what all goes on behind the scenes to keep this program up and running. We could use you.

Speaking of donating your time………Jerry Woolfolk is donating his time graciously as he has for so many years now. Not sure any one person has done so much for our program behind the scenes as Jerry. If you see him (behind his camera most likely) let him know how much you appreciate his pictures. What he does for us is so wonderful we can’t thank him enough. He shares those pictures of your kids with you simply because he loves it. He simply hopes you use that picture in a way that pleases you. He also does portraits for many other things so please keep him in mind for senior pics, wedding, and other special events!

There is Never a Bad Time to Do a Goo Thing!

What have you done lately to help someone? Have you passed on opportunities to be kind and helpful lately? Look for those moments and act on them. Don’t do it for the “thank you”, do it because it’s the right thing to do. Make helping others habitual. I promise you it’s the key to happiness.
