Band not travelling Friday

Good afternoon band family,

I have the unfortunate news that the band will not be travelling to Wetumpka this Friday. This decision did not come easily as I have been studying the weather for the past 48 hours. The forecast is terrible as I am sure most of you have been watching. This decision was agonizing because we have jobs to do. One important job is to be that presence, the “keepers of the Trojan spirit” at the games in support of our band student’s fellow classmate football players. I love and covet that responsibility and love that our kids actually do at times have a role in the game. This Friday, however, I believe the only place we would be supporting would be from the bus seats. Rain, band instruments and equipment just don’t mix together. I estimate the trip would cost around $3000 and about 15 hours to travel to Wetumpka and back. That’s a lot of money to not get to perform and sit on buses. It’s not a matter of if it will rain, but how many inches of rain will fall. After speaking with the Wetumpka band director, the stadium is not a good one and there is nowhere to get out of the rain for bands. All arrows kept pointing me to this decision.

We cannot control the weather and these decision are tough, but we feel this is the best decision given the scenario.

Thank you for your understanding.
