Info for the Week of 4/28 through 5/2

Good evening MSMS Band!

Here’s your info for the week:

Solo and Ensemble

The Alabama Bandmasters Association Solo and Ensemble Festival will be held at Muscle Shoals Middle School on Saturday, May 3. We have had several students in all 3 grade levels (6th, 7th, and 8th) to sign up to perform at this event. The directors are in the process of getting copies of music to all the kids for them to work on for the event. We will be pulling them out of band class each day to listen to their progress and help to get them ready to play on May 3.

Our time slots to perform our events are from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. All instruments and music needed for the event will need to taken out of the MSMS bandroom by 7:45 a.m. The school will open at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The kids will need to use the cafeteria for their warm up area. I will let the kids know what to do with their instruments and music once they finish playing their events for the judges.

The only people allowed in the rooms during a performance are the students and the judge.

The kids performing at Solo and Ensemble will need to look nice. Do not wear concert attire (7th & 8th Grade). Slacks, button down or polo shirts for the guys. A nice dress or slacks and a blouse/shirt for the ladies.

Once the kids perform their events, they will be free to go home. We will let the kids know how they did on their events when we come back to school on Monday.

The Jazz Band will performing at Solo and Ensemble, too. Their performance time is at 9:30 a.m. in the middle school band room.

Jazz Band Rehearsal

We will have our final Jazz Band rehearsal on Thursday May 1 @ 7:15 a.m. in the band room.

Spring Concert

The MSMS Bands Spring Concert is Thursday, May 8 in the auditorium at Muscle Shoals High School. The concert will begin at 6:00 p.m. The 6th grade band will perform first, followed by our 7th grade band, and finally our 8th grade band. We have a lot of FUN and ENTERTAINING, as well as CHALLENGING music planned for this performance. It’s going to be a great way to finish out our performances for the year. All the groups have just kept getting better and better. You will get to see and hear that on display on May 8!

7th and 8th grade band members will need to wear their concert attire for this performance. 6th grade will need to wear nice clothes (much like they did for the Veteran’s Day concert back in November; no tennis shoes or blue jeans if possible!)

Marching Band Auditions for Current 8th Graders

We will be listening to marching band auditions for our current 8th graders the week of May 5-9. The tryout material has been given to the students so they can begin to work on it. These auditions will take place during the 8th grade band class each morning. Mrs. Hood and I will be going over the material with the brass and woodwinds to help prepare them for the tryout. Dr. Frederick will be working with the 8th grade percussionists on their material.

We are excited to see so many of the 8th grade band kids continue their band journey as they move up to the high school! They will love being a part of the MSHS Trojan Marching Band!

Exciting News for current 6th and 7th grade Band Members!

We have some exciting news to share with our 6th and 7th grade band members! We will be speaking with them this week concerning our 2026 Spring Band Performance Trip! The band hasn’t been on a trip since the spring of 2017 and we are excited to offer this unique opporunity to our current 6th and 7th graders. More info to follow soon! Be on the lookout for an announcemnt and a parent meeting in the future concering the trip.
