From the Podium: 10/21-10/25

Happy delirious Sunday, from the band room! I am tired. But very blessed. TVI 2024 is officially in the books, and wow, what a day. I could go on and on about how proud I am of each and every person who helped make yesterday a success, but I thought I would share some of the things I heard instead:

“Your kids and parents are so kind and helpful!”
“Your organization and attention to detail from your team was outstanding. The event ran so smoothly!”
“It’s clear how much hard work went into today. Everything was seamless, from start to finish.”
“I was really impressed with how professionally the entire event was handled. You and your team did an amazing job!”
“The atmosphere was so positive and well-structured. It’s obvious the kids respect and look up to you.”
“Everything was so well-coordinated, from the logistics to the performances.”
“You’ve fostered such a sense of community and excellence in your band program. The competition was a joy to attend.”
“It was such a pleasure to watch so many talented students perform at such a well-organized event.”
“This is the best contest we have ever attended. I’m going to tell everyone to come back next year.”

Thank you to everyone who was able to help yesterday. One thing Dr. Holden announced several times yesterday was, “This event would not be possible without our band parents.” Every time he would announce it, I would say, “You’ve got that right.” It’s a huge undertaking, but it raises necessary funds for us to do what we do, while also offering great educational experiences for the thousands of students on campus for the day. Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone.

This Week At A Glance:
Monday – 4th Block Rehearsal, 6PM Shoals Stars Pep Band (not mandatory, but please attend if you are able. No dress code, call time is 5:40 in the MSHS band room, and we will walk to the stadium together.
Tuesday – 4th Block Rehearsal, 5:30-8 (2 Tuesday Nights rehearsals left!!!)
Wednesday – 4th Block Rehearsal
Thursday – 4th Block Rehearsal, 3:30-4:30
Friday – Pep Rally, 4th Block Rehearsal, Home Game VS. Hartselle

Planning Ahead:
Friday, October 25th – Hartselle Home Game
Pep Rally Info for Band Students: Band students will be released to go to the band room at 12:45 on Friday. If you have D lunch, you will need to go to C lunch instead, that will be from 12:12-12:37 on Friday. If you are at the career academy during 3rd block, you will walk as a group over to MSHS at 12:40. The pep rally is open to parents and will take place in the MSHS gym from 1:15-1:35. After the pep rally, we will go into 4th block rehearsal.

3:15 – the bell rings and all students leave campus. We do not eat during the game, so be sure to eat dinner before you come back to school for the game.
5:15 – call time for all students, show shirts under uniforms
5:30 – rehearsal begins
6:10 – walk to the stadium early
6:40 – Trojan March Performance
6:50 – National Anthem
7:00 – Game Begins
9:30ish – Game Ends, head back to band room/clean

Thursday, October 31st – Austin Away Game

1:35-3:15: 4th Block Rehearsal
3:30: Load-We will need to park trucks in a way that does not block after school traffic on the access road.
4:00 – Dress/Eat
5:00 – Depart for Austin High School
6:00 – Arrive/Unload
7:00 – Game Begins
10:30ish – Game Ends/Load
11:00 – Depart for MSHS
12:00 – Arrive/Unload

Friday, November 1st – Stadium Rehearsal

5:10 – Call time
5:15 – Walk to Stadium
5:30 – Rehearsal begins
7:30 – Run Through for friends/family
7:45 – Honor Seniors
8:00 – Load

Saturday, November 2nd – Alabama Marching Band Championships

7:00AM Band room opens
7:30 Call time
8:15 – Depart (4 school buses), Bring snacks!
11:30 – Arrive/Unload/Eat
1:00 – Dress
2:00 – Warm-Up Begins
2:45 – Move to Gate
3:00 – Championships Performance, load afterward, eat concessions
7:30 – Awards
8:30 – Depart
11:30am – Arrive at MSHS

After Championships, we have 3 rehearsals to put together our Veteran’s Day concert. Do not forget concert instruments on Monday, November 4th! Chair audition submissions are due Thursday, November 14th. All wind players are required to submit a graded audition. Materials have been available since August. Excerpts from the material, along with submissions requirements/instructions will be passed out next week. 

Marching season is winding down! Don’t have any regrets! Give it your all!
