Good morning MSMS Band!
Here’s your info for the week:
7th/8th Grade Band Rehearsals
- Tuesday, February 28 @ 6:00 p.m. in the high school band room. We should be finished by 7:45 p.m.
- Thursday, March 2 @ 7:15 a.m. in the middle school band room.
Parents, please make every effort to have your children at these two rehearsals. These will be the only two rehearsals that we will have with the 7th and 8th grade getting together before we play at MPA. THANK YOU!
Our MPA Performance Date and Time has been assigned:
What: Music Performance Assessment
When: Tuesday, March 7 @ 8:00 a.m. (this is our performance time)
Where: Norton Auditorium @ UNA
Who: 7th and 8th grade band members
We will take the kids on buses over to UNA the morning of March 7. They will need to wear their concert attire when they arrive at school that morning. The kids will need to eat breakfast before they come to school that morning as we will leave before the cafeteria opens. They may bring a change of clothes with them to change into once we come back to MSMS.
The band room will be open at 6:15 a.m.
The buses will leave at 6:50 a.m.
We will get to UNA relatively early that morning. This will give us time to get on stage, warm up, and let the kids get used to playing in a different environment.
Anyone may come and listen to the bands play at MPA. There is no charge for admission. However, parents will need to remain in Norton Auditorium. Once the band leaves the stage, they will go into another room to perform the sight reading portion of the assessment. No one but band members, directors, and administration may go into the sight reading room.
When we are finished, we may have a little bit of time to listen to some other bands before heading back to school. We will have the kids back at school in time for them to go lunch.
Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band
The dates of the honor band are March 10 & 11 @ Florence High School. Here’s the schedule of events for the weekend:
Friday March 10, Florence High School
Rehearsals
9:00 – 12:00 – High School Band on stage/Middle School, Band room
12:00 – 1:30 – Lunch – (we will have lunch for the kids brought to FHS, or they may bring their own)
1:30 – 2:15 – University of North Alabama Lab Band Concert – in auditorium
2:15 – 2:30 – Break- reset stage, move MS students back to band room
2:30 – 5:00 Rehearsals – same place as above

Saturday: March 11, Florence High School
9:00 – 12:00 Rehearsal
12:00 – 2:30 Lunch – (we will have lunch for the kids brought to FHS, or they may bring their own)
2:30 – Concert Warm-up
3:00 – Concert, Florence High School Auditorium
MSMS and MSHS Band students who are taking part in the honor band will be bused over to Florence High School both Friday and Saturday. Honor Band participants will need to wear their concert attire for the concert Saturday afternoon.
The Honor Band participants will be taken by bus on Friday and Saturday mornings to FHS. They will also ride the bus back to Muscle Shoals on Friday afternoon. A bus will be available to bring the kids back to Muscle Shoals after the concert on Saturday or parents may check their child out after the concert if they so choose.
UNA Middle School Honor Band April 13-15
Here’s the info for UNA Middle School Honor Band. Any 7th/8th grade band member may apply to be a part of this honor band. Once the folks at UNA have compiled a list of applicants, they will then choose who will be a part of the event.

There are no paper applications. These will all be submitted on through a google form (see link above)
If your child is accepted to be a part of the UNA Middle School Honor Band, there is a $65 participation fee that will need to be paid to UNA Bands. More info on that once the list of accepted applicants has been posted. The deadline to apply for this Honor Band is Friday, March 17.
