Now that we were able to tell the kids in class today, here is the BIG NEWS!
We are PROUD to announce that the Muscle Shoals Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Band has been selected as one of the bands to perform at the 2023 Alabama Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference! This is indeed a great honor for our students here in Muscle Shoals. We are grateful and thankful for this unique and special opportunity.
Our performance venue will be in the Theater at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, AL. We don’t yet know our specific performance date/time, but it will either be January 19 or 20. Once this information is received, we will pass it on to everyone.
We would love to have as many parents, friends, family, and community members as possible in attendance for this event!
To be selected to perform at this conference is one of the highest honors a band can receive in the state of Alabama. The MSMS band is one of only two middle school concert bands in the state that were selected to play for this event this school year. The last time the MSMS Band was selected to perform for this prestigious event was January of 2001.
This selection was made possible by not only the current members of the MSMS Band, but the many students who have gone on before to help make the program what it is. This commitment and dedication to excellence has not gone unnoticed.
Congratulations to ALL of our students who helped to make this performance opportunity a reality!
There will be an updated schedule coming out soon for our 7th and 8th graders with rehearsal dates/locations as we get closer to the event. I will also be sending out concert attire information for our students. This will need to be taken care ASAP as we will have to start making arrangements for pictures to go in our concert program. The 7th and 8th grade band will be featured on the AMEA Website as well as the “Ala Breve”, the Alabama Music Educators Association magazine that is mailed quarterly to all music educators and retirees in the state..
