Good morning MSMS Band!
Here’s your info for the week:
Jazz Band will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings this week: 7:15 – 7:45 a.m. This group is really starting to come around! It’s been great to get the jazz band back going again. This group will play on the spring concert!
Solo and Ensemble is this coming Saturday, April 30 at Muscle Shoals Middle School. We have received our schedule and all the MSMS Band performance times range from 8:00 a.m. – 9:10 a.m. We will assign specific times and rooms to each student this week.
Here’s what the kids need for Saturday: Instrument, music for their solo/ensemble, an extra copy of music for the judge to look at while the student(s) play. The kids also need to dress nice for this event. It’s not necessarily a formal occasion, but it is something where the kids need to look good. It’s kind of like a recital. We want the kids to look sharp when they go and play for the judges.
Please note, the band room will be used for jazz bands and percussion solos/ensembles. The kids need to have their instruments and music with them when they leave school Friday afternoon. They won’t be able to go into the band room that morning to retrieve anything.
When the kids arrive at school on Saturday morning, Mrs. Hood and I will meet them and give them their score sheets. They will need to keep up with them until they go into the room where they will play. The kids can warm up and practice in the cafeteria. Once the students have played all their events, they are free to leave. Mrs. Hood and I will collect all the score sheets from the judges. We will announce to the kids in class on Monday how they fared. Superior ratings will earn the kids medal! We hope to be able to give out LOTS of those.
Parents, you can drop your kids off at the school that morning and pick them up when they finish. All of our events for MSMS should be done by 9:30 a.m., at the latest.
The 7th and 8th grade band will play for the 5th grade on Tuesday morning this week. This is our big recruiting push. We will play for half of the 5th grade at 8:30 a.m. and the other half at 9:05 a.m.
Finally, we would like to recognize the MSHS Percussion Ensemble on their 1st Place, Gold Medal winning performance yesterday at the WGI Championships held in Dayton, Ohio. This is a remarkable achievement and one where our entire community should be so very proud! The majority of the kids in this ensemble got their start right here at the middle school! Mr. Waters has done a great job working with them over the years.
Great job Mr. Waters and Percussion Ensemble!
Spring Concert is May 10 for ALL MSMS Band groups. It’s going to be a great night of music, and you won’t want to miss it!
Have a great weekend everybody!
Seay you all on Monday!
