Good evening MSMS Band!
Here’s your info for the week:
Jazz Band will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings this week, 7:15 a.m. until 7:45 a.m.
Solo and Ensemble Music will be given out on Monday to the 7th and 8th grade. The 6th grade already has their copies of music. The Solo and Ensemble Festival is Saturday, April 30 at Muscle Shoals Middle School. Once a detailed schedule has been released, we will pass that on to the kids. We expect that towards the end of this week.
Our Spring Concert for all grades is Tuesday, May 10 @ 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Muscle Shoals High School. 7th and 8th grade will wear their concert attire. 6th grade will wear nice clothing (no blue jeans or tennis shoes, please!!) This will be our final concert of the year. All grade levels have been working on their concert programs, and I think that by the time we get to May 10, it will be in really good shape!
Now that the ACAP testing is over, we can get back in our normal class routine. This is an important week as we continue to nail down more concepts, as well as prepare our concert material.
6th grade – Pass offs are still happening! Keep striving to get as far as you can before the end of school! Mrs. Hood’s woodwind class goal is for all to at the least make Purple belt by the time we go home for the summer.
The “Scale Fish” is still a real possibility for many of our students. Those students who can play the 12 major scales and arpeggios from memory will get to sign the “Scale Fish”, which is hanging in Mrs. Hood’s office. This is something that be in the middle school bandroom for years to come. Memorizing 12 major scales and arpeggios is a significant feat. This is a cool way to recognize that accomplishment. There is still PLENTY of room for people to sign it. Keep on working on your scales!
The 7th and 8th grade band will be playing for the 5th grade on Tuesday, April 26. We have a good number already signed up for 6th grade band for the next year, but we hope to be able to get some more after we play for those students.
The High School Band Banquet is scheduled for May 16. This event is open to our 8th grade band members. Please reference Mrs. Hood’s previous post for info:

We would love to have all of our 8th grade students join with the high school that evening as we celebrate another great year of band in Muscle Shoals.
