We are so proud of how the 7th and 8th grade bands performed at MPA this past week. Both bands played very well and received all superior ratings! This is a major accomplishment and certainly one to be proud of! The kids worked very hard right up until their performance last week. The hard work most definitely paid off.
We are now in a period of transition. We do have things that are coming up that we need to be ready for.
1st – Shoals Area Middle School Honor Band, March 13-14 @ MSHS. Here is the schedule for those students who auditioned and were selected:
Friday, March 13:
9:00 – 12:00 Rehearsal MSHS
12:00 – 1:30 Lunch (we will provide pizza for the MSMS kids)
1:30 – 2:15 UNA Jazz Band Concert – MSHS Auditorium
2:15 – 2:30 Break- reset stage
2:30 – 5:00 Rehearsals
Saturday, March 14 9:00 – 12:00 Rehearsal
12:00 – 2:30 Lunch (on your own) 2:30 Concert Warm-up
3:00 SAHB Concert – MSHS Auditorium
There is no charge for admission to the concert on Saturday. We will walk or bus (depending on weather) the kids over to the high school on Friday morning. They will remain there until 5:00 p.m. Parents, you will pick up your child at the High School that afternoon at 5:00 p.m. The dress for the concert will be the concert attire that we wore for MPA. 7th grade – black polos and khakis. 8th grade – black dress (ladies), black pants, white shirt, red ties (gentlemen). Parents will be responsible for getting their kids to rehearsals on Saturday as well as providing lunch. The Middle School Honor Band conductor is retired Muscle Shoals Band Director, Pat Stegall.
2nd – UNA Middle School Honor Band, March 19-20. We had several students selected to be a part of this honor band. Here is the list of students: Linda Zheng, Rose Harman, Mary Cole Kinney, Sofia Torres, Dahlia Lamas, Crystal Nguyen, Maziah Jones, Janelle Parks, Ellis Lambert, Helen Liotta, Kelsey Hoyle, Lacie Broadway, Jackie Self, Anna Kate Everitt, Brandi Thompson, Kaitlyn Reed, Emmitt Wright, Jerowen Fisher, Lanaeshia Thomas, Tristan Ruano, John Thomas Baker, Zoey Oliver, and Karson Thigpen
Each of these students have received chair audition material for this honor band. There is a $55 fee for participating in this honor band. They may pay this fee when they check in at the honor band on March 19. If you will be paying by check, please make the check payable to “UNA Bands”. Parents, you will be responsible for taking your kids to UNA the afternoon of the 19th. They will also be out of school all day on March 20 for honor band rehearsals as well as the concert that night. We will not be taking a bus that day. Parents, you will need to drop them off at UNA that morning. One of the Muscle Shoals Directors will be at UNA Thursday night as well as throughout the day on Friday. For both Shoals Area Honor Band and UNA Honor Band, all rehearsals are mandatory. The dress for the concerts will be the same as before. These honor bands are a wonderful opportunity for our students to play some great music under some quality directors while meeting fellow instrument players their age from around the state.
3rd – The final payment for the MSMS Band Spring trip is due March 31st. We will be letting everyone know their remaining balance so you will know how much you have left to pay.
We will not have Jazz band on Monday this week, but we will meet on Wednesday to read through some new music.
