Congratulations to Linda Zheng and Janelle Parks for being selected to the Alabama Middle School All State Band! Also, congratulations to Christopher Clark, Zoey Oliver, Mary Cole Kinney, Linda Zheng, Janelle Parks, Owen Hollander, Jerowen Fisher, and Emmitt Wright for being selected to the Alabama District 3 Middle School Honor Band! MSMS Band will have a nice representation at these events later on in the spring. Many hours of practice goes into these tryouts. Just going through the process of working on the audition material makes students better players. I thank all of those who were willing to work toward these tryouts.
Jazz Band will meet this week on Monday and Wednesday, 7:15 am – 7:45 am
The next trip payment is due this week by January 29. Those payments can be placed in the fee box in the bandroom. Mrs. Hood sent home child/family specific trip forms last week. We need to have those turned back in this week.
The MSMS Bands will be selling fresh strawberries again this year! Orders will be taken from Tuesday, January 21st to Friday, February 7, 2020. Full Flats are $30 (8 1lb containers) Half Flats are $15 (4 1lb containers). Checks should be made to Muscle Shoals Band and all orders must be paid for before being placed. Strawberries will be picked, refrigerated, and shipped from Plant City, FL all within 24-36 hours. The delivery date (depending on crop) will be around the last week of February / first week of March. We will receive at least 72 hours’ notice of the delivery date. Each student is asked to sell $90 (3 flats) or more of strawberries. Should a family wish to not participate in the spring fundraiser they are asked to contribute their fair share. Fair Share for the spring fundraiser is $30. Checks should be made to Muscle Shoals Band. 7th and 8th Graders Attending Atlanta Spring Trip Students will receive $5 credit towards their final trip payment for each flat sold. Please let us know if you have any questions! These will be the best strawberries you eat all year!
7th and 8th grade band members need to be locating their concert band attire. Please have these by February 14. Those attending District Honor Band (February 14-15) will need the concert attire for that performance.
The Shoals Area Honor Band Tryouts sign up list has been posted in the bandroom. Any 7th or 8th grader may sign up to tryout. The tryouts are Tuesday, February 4 @ MSMS. The tryout material is the same as each 7th and 8th grade band member had to play for their chair test back in the fall.
The 7th and 8th grade bands are in full MPA Prep mode. Let’s have a great week of learning music and getting more comfortable with it. 6th grade band members are steadily working through their book. Their progress is going well. Let’s keep it going!
