Welcome back students

Welcome back students. Second semester is here and we have a great 4 months of music making planned for all of you. We also have a big announcement THIS WEEK!!! Stay tuned for more information.

4th block is split ensembles through MPA the first of March. Then we will be a combined large ensemble through our spring concert “A Night at the Theatre” .

Jazz band, we will begin rehearsals Tuesday morning, January 14th. This will be a different type of band in that it is large. It is really considered a “Lab Band” in that instrumentation is diverse. I am looking forward to getting started with that ensemble. We will rehearse in the smaller room.

Winterguard has had staging camp and just finished a work camp. I watched videos and things look to be progressing well. Your first competition will be here before you know it!

Percussion Ensemble will continue rehearsals this week on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:30-4:45. We have one piece completed, and in the month of January our goals are all the small ensembles completed and one more large composition nearly completed.

The January booster meeting has been moved to Tuesday, January 14th due to schedeuling conflicts. We hope you can make it. They last usually 30-40 minutes. This meeting we will be discussing details of our BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.

Our Spring fundraiser is the end of February and we are selling Mattresses. We hope that if you are in the market for a mattress or a family member that you wait and try our mattresses. We will set up over 40 mattresses in the front of the school so you can try and see for yourself. Great quality at good prices that help our band program.

ALL STATE AUDITIONS ARE HERE. It’s January which means last couple of weeks to fine tune music and memorize scales. Get to work.

Symphonic Band members will be receiving new music from Mrs. Hood today. I am very excited to hear the difficulty level she has selected. You will be tested! It is great music and nothing can take the place of great music. You of course will be in the band room every day.

Wind Ensemble members have a large task ahead of them. 15 minutes of Berlioz is going to be the biggest challenge you have ever faced. I hope you take is seriously. It will not sound good for quite some time so do not get discouraged. Oh yeah, that October song not to easy either 🙂 I am excited to get going.

Today is just the first step on a long journey. Much like band camp is the first step of marching band, today is the first step to playing the finest music the world has to offer classically trained students. Let’s get stepping!
