2019-2020 Percussion Ensemble Information
(2019 will be a non competitive season, but more of a collegiate ensemble approach)
2019 Schedule of Events:
February 29: University of Alabama Percussion Performance
We have been invited to perform and be adjudicated/cliniced by Micheal Burrit, professional percussionist (keyboard specialist). We will perform a short concert and Mr. Burrit will speak to all the students. We also get to hear a performance that day as well. https://www.esm.rochester.edu/faculty/burritt_michael/
March ?: CONCERT with the Jacksonville State University Percussion Studio
We will open up for the JSU percussion ensemble under the direction of Mr. Matt Jordan, Innovative Percussion artist and front ensemble arranger for Music City Mystique WGI indoor percussion. http://www.mattjordanpercussion.com/arranging.html
April 14: CONCERT with the University of North Alabama Percussion Studio
We will open up for the UNA percussion ensemble concert under the direction of Mr. Tracy Wiggins. https://www.tracywiggins.com/
April 20; JOINT CONCERT with the James Clemens Percussion Ensemble.
Mr. Keith Anderson and the James Clemens ensemble will share the stage with the MSHS at their auditorium. We hope to combine the groups for one song to close the night.
We also will perform at Dinner with the band and our Spring Concert.
—-We have asked Dr. Iain Moyer to fly in and perform with us as a guest artist on solo marimba. He will also spend the day rehearsing the group the day before. https://pasic.org/artists/iain-moyer/
Cost: Members will simply pay the $100 second semester band fee.
Practice schedule: Starting after Thanksgiving break
Tuesday and Thursday, 3:30-5:00 (large groups)
Monday and Wednesday mornings 7:15am (small group)
January: one day percussion camp
Rehearsals will be based on the songs in which we play. Mornings will be spent on the small ensembles we are playing and the after school rehearsal will be on the large ensemble music that involves everyone.
