Parents, our first Chair Test of the year is coming up soon. Your child was given their requirements last week concerning this assessment. The assignment was posted in Google Classroom last week.
Each student will need to video themselves playing 3 scales and arpeggios (C, F, and G) as well as One Octave Chromatic Scale, Concert Bb to Concert Bb, up and down. The submission should include only 1 video with all the scales/arpeggios. Once they start playing the first scale, it needs to be a continuous video until they finish the final scale.
I encourage the students to make multiple recordings of themselves before they submit the best sounding one.
This assignment will be graded. It will also determine the chair order for each section (until we have the next chair test). These videos will only be seen by Mr. Seay, Mrs. Hood, and/or Mr. Waters.
8th graders must have their scale video submitted in Google Classroom by September 17.
7th graders must have their scale video submitted in Google Classroom by September 24.
The second chair test will involve a prepared selection unique to each instrument section. For 8th grade, those will be due by September 24. We have not set a date for 7th grade.
PERCUSSION students will need to check with Mr. Waters on what their chair test will include. Either scales and/or rudiments.
The students have been encouraged to take this seriously as this is one of the few times that we get to individually assess where they are in their playing. We assess as a group everyday, but the individual assessment is just as important, if not more.
If you have any questions, please email me. dseay@mscs.k12.al.us
*These chair tests will not apply to 7th or 8th grade beginning band students.*
