7th and 8th Grade Added Rehearsal and Concert Venue Change

Good afternoon parents and students. I hope all of you are doing well.

The 7th and 8th grade bands have been working very hard in preparation for their upcoming MPA Recording Performance that is scheduled for Monday, March 15. Even in these circumstances of the pandemic, we have some great music that is being made.

Next week is a big week for us as it is our final week of preparation before the recording on the 15th. As you are aware, Tuesday through Thursday next week are scheduled to be virtual days as a number of the faculty and staff of Muscle Shoals City Schools will be receiving their second dose of the Covid vaccine.

These 7th and 8th grade groups do not need to go from a Monday to Friday the week before their performance without playing together as a group. We need to get together one day next week during their scheduled band time, if possible. I am asking that the 8th grade band members come to the school on Wednesday morning, March 10 during their normal 1st period band time. We would rehearse from 8:00 am until 8:40 am. This would give you time to get the kids ready for their upcoming 2nd period classes which would begin at 8:53 a.m. Likewise, I am asking that the 7th grade band members come to the school on Wednesday morning, March 10, during their normal 5th period band time. We would rehearse from 11:19 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. This should give you enough time to get the kids ready for their upcoming 6th period class which would begin at 12:33 p.m.

Parents, I understand that this may difficult to do during the middle school day and under normal circumstances, I would never ask. This rehearsal will help us continue the good work that the kids have already put in up to this point. We want their performance on Monday the 15th to be as good as it can be. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter!

The concert venue for Monday, March 15 has been changed due to the auditorium at the high school being used for “Newsies” and the high school choral program. We will simply move our performance to Grace Life Church, which is right across the street from the high school. The staff and leadership at the church have been most gracious in allowing us to use their facilities. There will be room for a limited audience. Once we finalize the seating arrangements with Grace Life Church, we will let you know the number who may attend. We will communicate that through your kids as well as this website.

This performance will be recorded for our State Music Performance Assessment, both with video and audio. This is the most important performance of the year for the MSMS Band Program.

Please make sure your child has their concert attire ready to go for March 15. If you have any questions about that, please let me know. I’ll be happy to talk with you!

The next week and a half are the most important of the year for our 7th and 8th grade band students. Once again, we are very pleased with their progress to this point. We still have some more work to do before March 15. Parents, I think you are going to be proud of what you see and hear from the performances.

Again, if you have any questions, please call me at school 256-389-2640 or email me at dseay@mscs.k12.al.us

Thanks everybody! Seay all the band kids at school in the morning!
