MSHS BAND COMPETITION NEWS

Here is our OFFICIAL competition schedule and locations.

Saturday, September 25 Russellville, Alabama

Saturday, October 2 Franklin, Tn (originally Trussville but their contest moved weekends)

Saturday, October 16 WE HOST OUR OWN CONTEST!

Saturday, October 23 Hoover, Alabama

Saturday, October 30 STATE MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIPS, Pelham, Al

In most cases (not all), a typical schedule for contest day for the band would be to meet late morning or early afternoon(11-2ish), short practice, load and depart for contest. Most of our performances at contest would most likely be later depending on the contest end times. Example, if the contest ends at 8:00pm, most likley we would perform around 7ish. It is rare we would perform before 5pm, but it is possible. We will not know our performance times until 4-5 days before the contest.

Friday night games prior to contest. HOME GAME: We simply bring our equipment back to band room and be prepared for a rehearsal the next day. If an away game, we would unload only what we would need for the rehearsal or instrument cleaning type of thing. The call would be made by directors for each time. There may be a time we don’t unload Friday night at all.

Parents, I wanted to let you know how proud we are of the students efforts in rehearsal. While we do wish attendance was better, we are still making progress. It is the marching part of what we do that is the biggest struggle. We have many competition rookies, over half the band actually, and the struggle to learn this much is real. It is getting better, but just at a slow pace. The good news is the band sounds good like always. We have not experienced a lack of quality of sound. THIS will do us well in the months ahead.

I want to say a special thank you to all the hard working parents who are loading props, chaperoning, driving trucks, concession stand workers, planners, booster officers, and the ones in the background supporting our band program in ways we do not see. Life is crazy, and so is the world we live in. But one thing never changes……….. there is never a bad time to do a good thing. There really isn’t anything more important than how you treat people. These kids and our parents do such a great job of this.

I LOVE BAND and GO TROJANS!
