Info for the Week of 10-4 through 10/8

Good afternoon MSMS Band!

Here’s the info you will need for this week in band:

1. Chair Tests for 7th and 8th grade should conclude tomorrow. We will post the results on the locker doors at the back of the bandroom sometime Tuesday morning.
2. The Homecoming Parade for 8th grade band members is Thursday, October 28. These students will be sitting in chairs on the flatbed of an 18 wheeler. They will play various pep band tunes as the truck makes its way down the parade route.
3. Our first concert of the year is Thursday, November 4 @ Muscle Shoals High School in the auditorium. This concert will include ALL groups (6, 7, and 8) The 7th and 8th grade band members will need to have their concert attire for this performance.
4. The MSMS Veterans Day Program is scheduled for Wednesday, November 10 in the MSMS Gym. A time has not been announced yet, but it will be sometime during the school day. 7th and 8th grade will play during this program. 6th grade not be playing at this event.
5. The MSMS Christmas Concert is scheduled for Monday, December 6 @ Muscle Shoals High School in the auditorium. This concert will include ALL groups (6, 7, and 8).

We will begin talking about various middle school honor bands and all state auditions with the 7th and 8th graders this week. I know we have several students who are more than capable of doing well in these auditions. These auditions are not mandatory for everyone, but are definitely there for those band students who feel like they would want to give it a shot. We would need to start working on this material now as these auditions will begin taking place in late January 2022. We had 7 MSMS Band students make All State last year. I would love to meet or exceed that number this year!

Band Night was a blast! Thank you parents for bringing your 7th/8th grade student to the game. I hope they all had a great time! Here’s a pic!

I hope to know the delivery date of our fundraiser items this week. As soon as I am made aware of the delivery date, I will let everyone know.

One last thing, 7th and 8th graders will need their Essential Elements Book 2. We will begin our new 7th and 8th grade pass off system this week and they will need Book 2 as they progress.
