From the Podium, 9/13

Good morning band faMily. I hope your weekend was restful.

This week the band travels to Athens Friday night. A great stadium and fans who understand band. They will appreciate what we do and I look forward to performing for them. Our schedule will be the same as other away games. Load at 2:45, depart at 4:15, and eat at concessions before the game.

*A reminder to all band students about our games second half. After our performance each game, including home games, we go back into the stands. We do not get the quarter off. Instead we get back quickly, rest for a short bit, then start playing as soon as everyone is prepared. We do not go to concessions 3rd quarter unless specifically said to. We will allow restroom visits but make sure its not a concession visit. We have not been super clear up about this so we wanted to at this time. At an away game if we do not get to eat before the game, then we do give the band 3rd quarter to do so. At home games, you are to grab food before your call at 5:30. Also, food may be brought to you in the stands if necessary. Please avoid blue Gatorade and nachos as these two things are not good for our band uniforms.

BOOSTER MEETING TUESDAY NIGHT! I would like to put out a special request to all band parents to please attend this meeting tomorrow night at 7pm. WHY THIS MEETING? If you do not attend another meeting all year, come to this one. We are discussing our band competition we host. It is a huge undertaking to make this work and it is our biggest booster fundraiser of the year. We will discuss what we do and how we do it. Its ALOT MORE THAN CONCESSIONS!!!!! We are the most hospitable contest in Alabama……or at least we were two years ago. We would like to keep that going and the only way to do that is having you help us out. I have been super proud of our boosters this year with so many stepping up and helping. Let’s show all the bands who attend our contest that we are indeed still the most hospitable contest they could attend.

FOR THE STUDENTS:

BAND GOALS THIS WEEK–Monday we will finish musically the closer. We will learn all the notes and start the process of memorization. Tuesday we start inside full band ensemble with the closer, then we begin the tedious task learning 25 new sets for the closer. Tuesday night is all about learning drill. Wednesday is a continuation of learning drill. Thursday and Friday are show rehearsals. Obviously the closer will not make it to Athens, but we have to make serious headway on this part of the show.

Next week is CONTEST WEEK! The closer must be on the field. We cannot go to a contest and not have a closer. A tall order folks, but I am convinced you can do it.

NEXT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th. We do not have a game that night which is the night before our first contest. I have the stadium reserved for the band and I would like to rehearse 5:30-8:00 that night. You will be able to sleep in Saturday and we will not meet until early afternoon to travel to Russellville.

Please mark that on your calendar this rehearsal. We will do a performance for parents and community that night at 7:45pm of the entire show.
