Concert Attire for 7th and 8th Grade Band Students

Good evening MSMS Band.

This information is for 7th and 8th grade band members and their parents/families.

Sometime in Mid March or Early April, both the 7th grade band and the 8th grade band will be performing for the annual Alabama Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment or MPA. This event is usually held in the first two weeks of March at UNA or Florence High School. Due to the pandemic, every band participating in MPA this year will submit both video and audio recordings of their musical program. These recordings will be adjudicated by a panel set up by the Alabama Bandmasters Association Executive Board. Our recordings have to be submitted by April 9.

We would like to have an evening where both the 7th and 8th grade bands come up to the auditorium at the high school and make this recording. This will be for both audio and video. This assessment is the single most important performance of the year for both groups, in terms of standards achievement. We have been working very hard the past 5-6 weeks preparing this music. Both groups are doing very well, so far.

The staff hope to have a date and time nailed down ASAP. We will let you know once that date and time is set.

The concert attire for this performance will be somewhat different this year. We are making the transition to a more traditional “concert black” look.

Here’s what we would like for the kids to wear for this performance (as well as some performances in the future).

Boys – black dress pants, black dress shoes, black belt, and a white, long sleeved button down dress shirt.

Girls – (2 options)

#1 – A long black dress that looks similar to this (please click the link) and black closed toe dress shoes with low heels:

Dresses must have sleeves and a back.

#2 – An all black pant suit (black pants, black blouse with sleeves and a back, black closed toe dress shoes with low heels)

Parents, let’s try to have these items for the band kids by March 10, if at all possible.

We work very hard each day. We take the approach that each day may be the last day…..you never know these days with COVID. Both groups are doing a nice job in their music preparation. We want them to look their best when it comes time to perform. We know you will be proud of them. As we continue to navigate through quarantines, the kids just keep on responding the way they need to.

If you have any questions, please email me: dseay@mscs.k12.al.us or you can call the middle school 256-389-2640

Thank you all for supporting your children in band. They are doing a great job!
