Here’s your info for the week:
7th and 8th Grade Morning Rehearsals
Woodwinds (Flutes, Clarinets, and Saxophones) will rehearse Tuesday, February 6 @ 7:15 a.m.
Brass (Trumpets, Trombones, Baritones, and Tubas) will rehearse Thursday, February 8 @ 7:15 a.m.
Shoals Area Middle School Band Auditions
Shoals Area Honor Band Auditions will be Tuesday, February 6. The tryouts are here at MSMS and will begin at 5:00 p.m. All the MSMS Band kids who are trying out will need to make sure they get their instrument and tryout music out of the bandroom before 5:00 p.m. as the bandroom will be used as a tryout room. The warm up area will be in the MSMS Commons. The kids who are auditioning need to be at MSMS to tryout by 5:00 p.m. There are no tryout times. The kids simply need to find their tryout room and get in line.

If a band student is selected to be in the honor band, they will need to attend the honor band rehearsals on March 8 and March 9. There will be a concert on Saturday afternoon, March 9 @ Florence Middle School. The honor band rehearsals will also take place at Florence Middle School. There is no charge to attend the concert. I will post more info about the honor band in the coming weeks.
All State and District Honor Band Results
Congratulations to the following students who auditioned and were selected to the Alabama Middle School All State Band:
Ava Walker – Trumpet, Everett Robison – Percussion, Jillian Snyder – Flute, and Bristol McVay – Baritone.
Additionally, we had 3 other students who auditioned and were accepted to the District Honor Band: Josiah Valentine – Percussion, Kymori Whitehurst – Flute, and Joshua Tucker – Trombone.
We are very proud of these students as well as all who auditioned for the All State Band this past Saturday. It is a tough audition and just going through the process of the tryout is a challenge!
Music Performance Assessment
7th and 8th grade band members will be participating in the 2024 Alabama State Music Performance Assessment. The dates of the assessment are March 5-7. Our 7th and 8th grade band will play on one of those days (we haven’t been assigned a date/time. Once we are, I will pass that on to everyone). MPA (music performance assessment) will be held in Norton Auditorium at UNA.
This performance is what we are working on in both 7th and 8th grade band classes. It’s also what we are working on during our 7:15 a.m. morning rehearsals. It’s the most important performance of the year for our band. I feel we are in good shape, but we still have lots of work to do.

Tuesday, February 27 – Full 7th/8th Grade Band Rehearsal @ Muscle Shoals High School Band Room. Rehearsal will begin @ 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m.
Congratulations to our High School Band!
Our high school band was selected to participate and perform at the 2024 Southeastern United States Honor Band held at Troy University. The band performed this past Friday afternoon for the honor band participants, parents, fellow band directors, and music students. Mrs. Hood and Dr. Frederick did a great job getting the band ready to play for this concert. It’s a big honor for a band to be selected to perform at this event. GREAT JOB MSHS CONCERT BAND!
We’ve got lots to work on this coming week in all of our classes. Let’s make it a good one.
